My City, My Voice
In 2023-2024, Y4Y partnered with Educaloi to put on their My City, My Voice workshop which, in brief, is meant to empower BIPOC youth by teaching them how to communicate with their city officials and to better under- stand municipal politics. The workshop centred around a mock municipal council debate with a topic of the participants’ choice. Some of these choices included spaces for mental health and increased public trans- portation. Funded by Justice Canada, this workshop was run with youth from the Black Community Resource Center (BCRC), Black Girls Gather, the Maasai Mentoring Group and, in 2022-23, the Dawson Boys & Girls Club. Educaloi and Y4Y shared our early results and experiences at the QUESCREN’s “University’s Education and Vitality Forum” in November 2023.
